Professional Enrichment Courses

The MSCI program offers students the opportunity to take classes for professional enrichment or to complete a certificate program. These options provide the opportunity to gain clinical investigation experience without completing the full master’s degree course load.

Applicants must complete the normal MSCI application as a non-degree student. Non-degree seeking students students may change their status to degree-seeking and receive credit toward the MSCI degree program at any time. 

All courses will appear on the student's transcript, but the certificates themselves will not be identified. Learn more about MSCI courses

Graduate Certificate in Clinical and Translational Science 

The certificate is sponsored by The Graduate School and available only for students currently pursuing a PhD at Northwestern. 

Students must take five courses reflecting three different disciplines. This includes:  

  • Two core courses (IGP 422: Introduction to Translational Research and MSCI 321: Biostatistics for Clinical Investigators 1) 
  • Three elective courses approved by MSCI administration

Learn more about MSCI courses or more about this certificate option. An application is not necessary; interested students must receive permission from their program to pursue the certificate and then contact the MSCI program administrator

NUCATS Certificate in Clinical and Translational Science

This NUCATS-sponsored option is available to all Northwestern University faculty, fellows and residents who are interested in gaining clinical and translational science experience and expertise but do not want to complete a full master's degree. 

Students must take five courses reflecting three disciplines. This includes:  

  • Two core courses (IGP 422: Introduction to Translational Research and MSCI 321: Biostatistics for Clinical Investigators 1) 
  • Three elective courses approved by MSCI administration
