The Center for Education and Career Development (CECD) is the home of Northwestern University’s education and career development activities, and collaborates across Northwestern and our clinical partners to train the entire spectrum of the translational research workforce. Since 2008, CECD has developed and implemented over 14 programs to train a highly skilled research workforce including early career faculty, post-doctoral fellows, scholars, trainees and clinical research professionals.
The Center includes the Multidisciplinary Mentored Career Development Program (KL2), a multi-disciplinary post-doctoral training program (TL1), two graduate programs, a robust Mentor Development Program, workshops and seminars for early career faculty at Northwestern and training programs for clinical research coodinators and study site staff.
CECD by the numbers:
- 18 KL2 graduates since 2008
- 14 TL1 graduates since 2008
- 254 Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) graduates since 1999
- Pioneered one of the first graduate degrees for research professional staff, Master of Science in Regulatory Compliance (MSRC)
- More than 500 faculty, representing more than three-quarters of Feinberg School of Medicine departments, trained in the Mentor Development Program since 2013
- 948 clinical research coordinators trained in CRC Basic Training since 2007
The intent of all these programs is to instill in investigators and research staff their valuable role as contributors to the ever-growing research enterprise and to assist them in developing their clinical and translational research careers at Northwestern University.
“CECD is committed to accelerating the translation of research discoveries to improve human health through education and career development. We provide programs to all members of multidisciplinary research teams with the knowledge and skills to perform high quality research in an efficient and effective manner.
