ARCC Co-director Jen Brown Appointed to National Research Institute’s Advisory Panel

Alliance for Research in Chicagoland Communities Co-Director and Co-Founder Jen Brown, MPH, has been appointed by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) as a member of its Advisory Panel on Patient Engagement.

I'm excited to join with the other amazing panel members and staff to advance meaningful patient and community leadership of those that have been historically excluded in the research enterprise.”

"It's an incredible honor to be appointed to the PCORI Advisory Panel on Patient Engagement. I'm excited to join with the other amazing panel members and staff to advance meaningful patient and community leadership of those that have been historically excluded in the research enterprise,” says Brown, a member of the Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. “I have been continually impressed by PCORI's actions to center community expertise and lived experience not only in the research projects and partnerships they fund, but also in their own governance, merit, and peer review decision-making processes and structures."

Brown was selected for the three-year appointment because of her experience, expertise, and ability to contribute to the panel’s mission. Panel members represent a broad range of healthcare stakeholder groups and perspectives, including patients, family caregivers, clinicians, drug and device makers, and researchers, among others.

Established in 2010 as part of the Affordable Care Act, the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) funds studies that can help people make informed healthcare decisions, and improves healthcare delivery and outcomes, by producing and promoting high-integrity, evidence-based information that comes from research guided by patients, caregivers, and the broader healthcare community.

PCORI's Advisory Panel on Patient Engagement is instrumental in helping PCORI to ensure the highest patient engagement standards and a culture of patient-centeredness in all aspects of their work. The panel helps PCORI to refine and prioritize research questions, provide needed scientific and technical expertise, offer input on other issues relevant to our mission, and help us model full and meaningful patient and stakeholder engagement efforts.
