Bucek Named NUCATS Director of Evaluation

The Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Science (NUCATS) Institute has named Amelia Bucek, MPH, as its new Director of Evaluation. Over the past year, Bucek has worked within the evaluation core of the Galter Health Sciences Library & Learning Center, where she supported Northwestern’s NURTURE program. In that role, she managed local and national evaluation activities, demonstrating an ability to build strong relationships with institutional leaders and systematically gather and analyze data for NIH reporting.

“I’m thrilled to join the NUCATS team and become part of an Institute with such broad reach,” says Bucek. “The opportunity to use data-driven methods to support the NUCATS mission and demonstrate its impact is an exciting one.”

Bucek will help lead the development and implementation of comprehensive evaluation plans at NUCATS.

“Amelia’s extensive experience, expertise, and proven leadership will be invaluable as she steps into this position,” says NUCATS Executive Director Nicole Woitowich, PhD. “We are excited to have her on board.”

As director of evaluation, Bucek will lead ongoing tracking and evaluation activities, including preparation of reports and management of evaluation priorities and workflows.

“My academic background is in public health, and I believe synergies between scientists, communities, and policymakers can improve community health outcomes and support health equity,” she says. “I always keep this bigger picture front of mind and find that it helps drive my evaluation work.”

At NUCATS, Bucek will also ensure timely reporting and data for NCATS and the CTSA Program and lead large cross-functional teams to define metrics, gather data, and deliver results in specific timeframes.

“I’m blown away by the resources and training that NUCATS offers and the amazing team of faculty and staff that make it happen,” she says. “I can’t wait to learn from them and I’m also looking forward to meeting other evaluators and leaders within the national CTSA program network. I love learning from others, sharing best practices, and finding ways to collaborate.”
