Gollan Named T32 Co-Director

Jacqueline Gollan, PhD, professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, has been named co-director of the NUCATS Institute's T32 E-TRAIN Program.

Equitable TRanslational science to Accelerate Impact of New innovations (E-TRAIN) is a National Center for Advancing Translational Science-funded training program that seeks to prepare postdoctoral trainees for research careers through mentored research while they develop strategies to anticipate and overcome scientific and operational barriers that impede translation from design through implementation of novel approaches to diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of human disease. The goal of the program is to prepare early postdoctoral trainees to become leaders in clinical and translational science.

Gollan joins Director Susanna McColley, MD, Scientific Director for Interdisciplinary Research Partnerships and a professor of Pediatrics, in leading the T32 (formerly TL1) Program. McColley has been involved with the Institute's TL program for many years and has been the NUCATS Institute's associate director for child health since 2014.

Groundbreaking research at Gollan's clinical psychology lab revolutionizes depression treatment by identifying key brain function biomarkers. The team is developing innovative psychotherapy that targets emotional regulation and decision-making processes, optimizing brain function for faster symptom relief. The lab’s cutting-edge approach, which integrates neuroscience with therapeutic techniques, promises to significantly improve outcomes for adults battling depression.

"My previous interactions with NUCATS have been excellent. Our research team at the Asher Center has benefited from the Institute's research support services, notably the Biostatistics Collaboration Center and the Center for Clinical Research," says Gollan, who also participated in a NUCATS Grant Writing Coaching Group. "Led by Rick McGee, the writing group sharpened my NIH proposal writing skills, and Dr. McGee's guidance on my resubmission directly contributed to securing NIMH R21 funding. It is a robust example of how the experts and initiatives offered by NUCATS can make an amazing difference in a researcher's career whose work will improve the health of others."
